The features that change the way you work, checked against the official help centres in October 2026. Names and plans change often: before you decide, check the tool's official website. Same goal, different routes: OpenAI recommends putting instructions at the beginning, separate from the materials; Anthropic recommends long documents at the top and the question at the end.

ChatGPT

Working by case

  • ProjectsChats, files and instructions for the same piece of work, together.One project per client or case. With project-only memory, memories from other chats stay out.
  • MemoryRemembers facts and preferences you have told it.Review it from time to time: you can see, edit and delete every memory. It is not active in custom GPTs.
  • Plugins and skillsCustom GPTs are being retired on 11 December 2026: their instructions become a skill inside a plugin.If you use a GPT for a task you repeat, migrate it before that date and test it on a real case.

Research and analysis

  • Deep researchSearches many sources and returns a report with citations.Useful for market or regulatory overviews. Always open the sources before reusing a number.
  • AudioUpload a recording and get a transcript, a summary, structured notes or a draft follow-up email.Paid plans. After a meeting, ask for decisions, owners and deadlines, then check them against the recording.
  • ChatGPT WorkAn agent for long, multi-step tasks that end with a ready result.Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans. Give it a clear goal and check the final result.

Your method

  • Skills (replacing Gems)Reusable instructions, called up with / and combinable with each other.Already on personal accounts; Google is bringing them to work accounts soon, where Gems become skills in 2027. They do not yet work with Canvas and Deep Research.

Connections

  • Connected appsConnect Gemini to Gmail, Drive and the other Workspace apps.If the company already works on Google, it is the quickest way to give context without copying and pasting.

Microsoft 365 Copilot

Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM)

  • Only your sourcesAnswers based only on what you upload: documents, PDFs, links, videos.Ideal for contracts, manuals and internal regulations. It also makes audio and video summaries. The free plan allows up to 50 sources per notebook.
